A reception was held in Washington DC for two dozen Japanese
peace activists on Thursday, August 29, 1996 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Stuart Mott House at 122 Maryland Avenue NE. They were greeted by leading members of Center for Defense Information, Peace Action, Gray Panthers' Hiroshima-Nagasaki Committee, Women Strike for Peace, and Proposition One Committee.
Representatives Patty Minsk and Louise Slaughter wrote letters of support.
Japan Peace Committee sent these activists to Washington DC, Boston, and New York for the ninth annual "Peace Tour." They have been working for demilitarization of their country and for a nuclear weapons-free planet. They helped collect 50 million signatures on the "Hiroshima Appeal," which was presented to the United Nations General Assembly in October 1995. They are supportive of the "Nuclear Disarmament and Economic Conversion Act" (HR-1647), and actively seek Japan's demilitarization.
