THE NEW CONCORD LEADER

A stop along the way

Rudy Stolfer, formerly of Washington, Pa. took a break on his trek across country on a "Quest for Peace," during the recent New Concord Fireman's Festival. Stolfer began his trip around Thanksgiving 1996. He is headed to Washington, D.C. by Labor Day and is asking people to join him there for the weekend to protest war.

Rudy Stolfer is hoping his walk across the United States will prompt people to take a look at the society we live in, and in turn, join the "Quest for Peace."

Citing massacres in the schools, Stolfer believes many problems in our society can be traced to a lack of faith.

"You can't take God out of society and not expect trouble," said Stolfer

His crusade began in Washington, D.C. in November 1996. He started with four friends, but they left along the way.

Stolfer pulls a cardboard coffin mounted on a cart which weighs in between 250 and 300 pounds. Written on the coffin are various slogans including "One God, one people, one planet, one chance. Wage peace." The coffin represents the potential victims of a society where war is a solution to problems.

Although Stolfer carries a tent and a little food, he has made the trip mainly on faith. People along the way have offered him a bed to sleep in, food to eat and even a little money to help the cause.

Stolfer is hoping to be in Washington, D.C. by Labor Day and is asking people to join him there in Lafayette Park to protest war.
