MAY 15, 1948

A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR
THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE

ON THAT DAY:

The Zionist leadership in Palestine, representing 608,000 Jews (31% of the population), declared the birth of the state of Israel.

The Muslim and Christian Palestinians, 1,242,000 (69%), instantly became, to the Zionist leadership, second-class citizens.

FROM MAY 15,1948, UNTIL MAY 11,1949, WHEN THE UNITED NATIONS ADMITTED ISRAEL AS A MEMBER:

The Jewish army of 66,000, armed by the British (who ruled Palestine from 1920 until May 14,1948) and by arms shipments from Jewish-Americans...

DESTROYED 418 VILLAGES,

expelling the Palestinians and confiscating their homes and fields and orchards (70% of the agricultural land Israel "owns" today was land owned by the Palestinians).

THOSE WHO RESISTED WERE KILLED.

We stand in sorrow and friendship with the Palestinian Muslims and Christians who lost their homes, schools and belongings, their Mosques and Churches, their fields and orchards and factories.

Many today still live in refugee camps, waiting for justice from the international community.

We agree with Thomas Jefferson that every people has a right to their own destiny.

Our government, under President Truman, recognized the state of Israel within two hours.

WE ASK THAT OUR GOVERNMENT, NOW, FINALLY RECOGNIZE THE STATE OF PALESTINE, AND FREEDOM FOR THE PALESTINIANS WITHIN THEIR OWN NATION.
