THE INTERFAITH PILGRIMAGE OF THE MIDDLE PASSAGE

 

      A WALKING JOURNEY RETRACING THE TRANS‑ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE                   

                    UNITED STATES - ­CARIBBEAN ‑ BRAZIL - WEST AFRICA

 

Spiritual communities of all faiths, social and political organizations and individuals are encouraged to participate in the Interfaith Pilgrimage of the Middle Passage as volunteers when the pilgrimage passes through the Washington metropolitan area on July 1O‑16, 1998.  Volunteers are especially needed to:

*Provide transportation (vans) and meals for pilgrimage participants

*Operate water stations along the walking route

*Provide clerical assistance

June 21  A Benefit Gospel Concert featuring PROPHECY, Shiloh Family Life               7 p.m.       Center, 1500 9th St. NW

 

July 13   Welcoming Ceremony at Lincoln Park, East Capitol Street between 11th
 
3 p.m.      and 13th Streets, featuring area performing artists and community leaders

 

July 14    10 a.m:  Prayer Vigil on the Mall

Sunset:  Waterside Ancestral Ceremony, Hains Point Park‑‑‑Featuring                          Mamadi Nyasuma and 2000 Black, Tashia Thema McNeil, and others

 

July 15   10 a.m: Vigil at the World Bank and IMF Building

             7 p.m: Gospel Requiem program, Shiloh Baptist Church, 1500 9th St. NW

 

July 16  10 a.m: Memorial Walk through Arlington National Cemetery

             3 p.m:  Vigil at the Pentagon, Pentagon Parking Lot
