Dear Friends and Colleagues:

Doris Haddock is less than 60 miles away from DC. Her arrival in the Capitol and the corresponding march for campaign finance reform on Tuesday, February 29, could be a historic moment in our efforts to restore popular governance in America. But for it to be a success, we need you to march with her and to help us mobilize more participants.

Walking 10 miles a day, the 90-year-old Doris has logged over 3000 miles, meeting weekly with community groups, newspaper editorial boards, television crews and thousands of people who have come out to cheer her on and walk with her wherever she goes. She has become something of a one-woman media sensation she's been ranked by George magazine as the ninth most fascinating woman in American politics, profiled in People magazine, The New York Times, National Public Radio and has been a guest on network morning shows.

Alliance staff and volunteers, along with a coalition of eight national campaign finance reform groups -- including Public Campaign, Common Cause, Public Citizen, LWV, PIRG and Sierra Club -- have been working very hard organizing public events to trumpet her accomplishment.

Now we need your help. Please bring your friends and family members and neighbors AND workmates AND walk with Granny D. You can join us anywhere along the route! Here are the details:

9:00 a.m. Arlington Cemetery Metro, estimated 5 mile walk to US Capitol begins

10:00 a.m. Lincoln Memorial

11:30 a.m. Freedom Plaza -- 14th and Pennsylvania Avenue -- estimate 1 mile walk to US Capitol

12:30 p.m. Rally on US Capitol steps

1:30 p.m. Democracy Brigade Speak-Out in Capitol Rotunda

Please call us if you plan on joining us or if you would like to volunteer to help organize the day's events on February 29 at 781-894-1179. You can also find more information about Granny D at her website at www.grannyd.com.
