Dozens of tons of mustard gas and phosgene were stockpiled at a number of sites in Panama, particularly from the 1930s to the 1950s. Unused and dud chemical munitions were also abandoned in Panama.” From the Fellowship of Reconciliation. SEATTLE-DC BUS CARAVAN TO DAY WITHOUT PENTAGON Seattle activists are planning a cross-country bus trip to attend October 19’s Day Without a Pentagon demonstration and action. Along the way, they’ll be meeting with locals, talking to the media, picking up riders and hopefully making a spectacle of themselves, taking their unique style of art & revolution rabble-rousing with them on the 25-seat “Mother Ship” bus. >From the Nonviolent Action Community of Cascadia. REMEMBERING HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI: CITIZENS INSPECTION TEAMS August 6th and 9th are the anniversaries of the only use of weapons of mass destruction against humans: the United State’s bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Many historians have argued that the attack on these cities was unnecessary as the Japanese government was already petitioning the U.S. for surrender; instead these bombs were the opening shots of the Cold War and a display of power against the Soviet Union. This week, Citizen’s Inspection Teams across the U.S. will commemorate the atrocity of these bombings by searching for the weapons of mass destruction still threatening the world’s people.
