Chet D. Levitt, 30, a lawyer who specialized in employment issues with the firm of Cashdan and Golden in Washington, died Sept. 21 in a shooting in an alley near 12th and N streets NW in Washington. Police said the shooting is under investigation.

Mr. Levitt, who lived in Washington, was born and raised on Long Island, N.Y. In 1988, he graduated from Columbia University, where he played college football.

He received a law degree at Georgetown University Law School in 1991. For about two years, he worked at Cashdan and Golden. Earlier, he had worked in Rockville for the firm of Jacobs, Jacobs and Farber.

Survivors include his parents, Cynthia and Herbert Levitt of Massapequa Park, N.Y.; two brothers, Paul Levitt of Chesapeake, Va., and Adam Levitt of Bucks County, Pa.; and one sister, Robyn Martin of Long Island.
