Thomas P.O. Box 27217 Washington, D.C. 20038 (202) 462-0757 January 27, 1992 Sunrise S. Harmony 450 Haight Street #2 San Francisco, California 94177\ Dear Sunrise, Peace, peace on Earth, good will to all living creatures. Enclosed are two copies of the petition you asked me to type for you. Essentially both are as you wrote them, the major differences being: 1) "Right to Life" and "Right to Live." Perhaps you will agree that you are, in fact, "alive." You have not mentioned any direct threats on your life. Therefore it seems you have no grounds to complain about anyone threatening your "life." 2) "Tampoons" and "personal hygiene needs." Apparently more than one sister read the petition after the first draft was printed, because the following message was sitting on the draft: "We, the women of the house, request that 'tampoons' be removed from this petition and be expressed in the words, 'personal hyeiene needs. Tampons are not environmentally sound. They contain trace amounts of dioxin ... bleach and all bleached products do ..." Personally, the petition seems to express a basically kind and noble idea. You might call it "Utopia." A modest request, your petition, I suppose. Not asking for much more than for government to dissemble the idea of private ownership (i.e., "private property"). On the other hand, one wonders, might Sunrise be petitioning the governments to do something which he himself might not have fully done yet? But aside from that, one might ask, is it practical? What might Sunrise say next? "We're not asking for the rights on private property; we're asking for the rights on public property."? Okay, but who, if not private property owners -- through their taxes -- maintain that "public" property? For example, who is paying the cops to tell you that you can't sleep there? And if the government's going to give you free medical supplies, etc., food clothes showers, lockers, toilettes, toothpaste, shampoo, tampons, etc. -- not to mention "freedom to teach, learn and study" -- who's going to pay for all that stuff if you can't find it in a dumpster? I hope you can answer these questions for me, because I would like to live in Utopia; which is why I've been working on Proposition One. Presently, because I think it would be easier to collect signatures from people (except, perhaps, houseless people) on a Proposition One petition than on a "Right to Life," "Right to Live," or "Right to Happiness" petition, I think I will continue to focus my energy on convincing people to sign the former; because to do so., I believe, will hasten the realization of the latter (Utopia). Best regards, have a nice week! We love you, The D.C.
