SAVE INITIATIVE 17

Vote "FOR" Referendum 005

WHAT IS REFERENDUM 005

Referendum 005 will place before District voters a measure to reject City Council Act 8-228, which drastically amends Initiative 17, (The D.C. Right to Overnight Shelter Act of 1984), and eliminates the right to shelter. In order to place Referendum 005 on the November general election ballot, we must collect 14,000 signatures of registered D.C. voters. We need signatures from five percent of the registered voters in 5 different wards in the city.

TIPS

Be sure to carefully read the petitioning rules sheet we have supplied to you. Note that you must sign an affidavit on the petition in the presence of notary public. If you are unable to find a notary who will volunteer their services, consult the list of notaries on the other side of this sheet. There will also be two notaries available at the Committee office.

Remember to have a picture I.D. and your voter registration card with you when visiting the notary. It will be necessary to list your registration number on the affidavit.

All notarized petitions must be returned to your designated drop off point before August 14th. If you have petitions with lines left for additional signatures, that's OK.

If you have further questions please call your ward leader or contact at The Committee to Save Initiative 17 office - 393-1909
