NOT A QUESTION OF COLOR
Column: LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Sunday, January 22, 1989
; Page D06
I was very surprised and appalled to read about Mitch Snyder's reasons for
dropping his spearheading campaign for Mayor Barry's recall {Jan. 12} . The
implication that certain black leaders found it inappropriate for a white man
to lead such a campaign is itself a racist statement. In a day and age when
racial barriers are (however slowly) coming down, this serves only to put up
more of them. This is not a question of color, rather of right and wrong.
Mayor Barry is not just the mayor of any single group in Washington, but of
everyone. The truth does not know color, and any recall effort should not be
cast in that light.
