Nominations Accepted for Awards on Fighting Hunger
The Mayor's Commission on Food, Nutrition and Health is now accepting
nominations for the first Mayoral End Hunger Awards for residents and
institutions that have made significant contributions to the alleviation of
hunger in the District.
Awards will be given in five categories: government/legislative, corporate,
individual achievement, private voluntary organizations and
media/communications. Nominations must be postmarked before midnight Sept. 30
and sent to Linda Thompson, Mayor's Commission on Food, Nutrition and Health,
25 M St. SW, Third Floor, Washington, D.C. 20024. For a nomination form or

24-Hour Ask-a-Nurse Hot Line Launched
rrInter+Net Health System, an association of 13 area nonprofit hospitals,
has launched Ask-A-Nurse, a free, 24-hour health hot line.
The hot line will be staffed by registered nurses, who will answer
questions on health care and make referrals to public and private health
information and services.
The number is 760-8787.
Documentary on Homelessness to Be Broadcast
"Promises to Keep," a documentary on Mitch Snyder, advocate for the
homeless, and the Community for Creative Non-Violence will be broadcast at 9
p.m. tomorrow on WETA-TV (Channel 26). Local filmmaker Ginny Durrin produced
the hourlong documentary during four years of attending public hearings,
confrontations and Snyder's long fast to bring attention to the homeless.
Later this fall, the program will be aired nationally on public
broadcasting stations. "Promises to Keep" was narrated by Martin Sheen and
funded in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Chamber of Commerce Seminars on Management
The D.C. Chamber of Commerce will hold four seminars on management this
fall, open to the public.
They are "Temporary Help in the Changing Workplace," 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

NW; "Business Expansion into the International Marketplace," 8 to 10 a.m. Oct.
12, presented by Baker & Hostetler, 1050 Connecticut Ave. NW; "Business

51 Louisiana Ave. NW; "Tax Planning for Small and Closely Held Businesses," 8
to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 7, presented by Peat Marwick Main and Co., 2001 M St. NW.
