Re:  Charles Hyder, fasting Ph.D.

Dear Mr. Reagan:

It is likely that in the near future you will find yourself being
questioned about Dr. Charles Hyder, the fasting astrogeophysicist
from New Mexico who has captured the imagination of the European,
Soviet, Oriental, and even (some) American press, and has received
thousands of supportive letters from all sorts of people all over
the world, including Nobel Prize winning scientists, Japanese
school children ... and Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev.  (See
enclosed materials.)

Dr. Hyder has maintained a vigil outside the White House, beside
his American flag and "END WAR" signs, since last April.  He began
a water-only fast September 23, l986, seeking your -- or Congress's
-- binding commitment to global nuclear disarmament and
demilitarization of the planet by the year 2000.

Charles Hyder is dying.  He has lost an average of a pound a day 
for l78 days.  His peripheral vision grows "kaleidoscopic."   His
time is very short.  Continued White House silence has become an
international embarrassment.  You are in a unique position to help
save his life.  

Please meet with Dr. Hyder.  Please issue a statement of support
for his goals.  Please meet Soviet proposals with compassion and
without fear.  Become the "Peace President."

Dear Ms. Skidmore,

I hope we will have talked by this time.  Enclosed is a letter to
Mr. Reagan which concerns the rapidly-evaporating life of a
profoundly courageous man.

While, of course, no one life is more important than any other, Dr.
Charles Hyder, ex-NASA astrogeophysicist from New Mexico and leader
in the nuclear waste disposal field, has credentials which cannot
be ignored.  His l78-day water-only fast for world peace has had a
profound impact both in our country (via "peace press") and around
the world (via established press).  If Dr. Hyder dies at the White
House gates without a word from the President, I weep for Mr.
Reagan.

It is vital that the enclosed letter be seen by Mr. Reagan -- today
-- so he will be prepared for inevitable questions (perhaps even at
tonight's press conference!), and so he can make an educated
decision.

Please do what you can so Dr. Hyder needn't die.

Dear Mrs. Reagan:

Today Mr. Reagan was delivered the enclosed letter begging his
influence on behalf of Dr. Charles Hyder, the astrogeophysicist
from New Mexico who has fasted l78 days outside the White House.

Mrs. Reagan, I have heard that you dream of your husband being
known as the "Peace President."  Recent events have brought us
closer to realizing the dream of peace than perhaps ever before. 
To publicly endorse the goals for which Dr. Hyder risks his life
would gain Mr. Reagan the respect of the world.  To ignore this
esteemed scientist as his life slips away on your doorstep would be
devastating.

There have been enough deaths.  Dr. Hyder points a way toward a
better life for us all.  Please help make sure Mr. Reagan sees his
letter -- and please, please, counsel him wisely.  Help get Dr.
Hyder an appointment -- before it's too late.
