SHELTER SOMEWHERE ELSE

Why can't something be done by the federal government, which now permits
the serving of meals to the homeless in Lafayette Park across the street from
the White House, to help feed the homeless in a different place and manner?
The lines attract a large amount of attention from U.S. and foreign tourists.
Although I am very sympathetic to the conditions of these people, I feel
that we project the wrong image for one of the strongest nations in the world.
It is a great idea to feed the homeless, but why in President Reagan's front
yard?
Why doesn't the government provide funding for a first-class shelter in a
central location, which would furnish beds and clothing as well as meals? I
think this would be a better solution for everyone affected. MARC RYAN
