Community for Creative Non-Violence June 30, 1981 To Whom It May Concern: In the fall of 1981, ACLU attorney Art Spitzer and other members of CCNV met with Interior Department officials to discuss our proposed demonstration in Lafayette Park - Reaganville. We had intended to erect 10-15 tents for the purpose of making more concrete and visible the plight of the homeless. The homeless would sleep in the tents and by so doing show that they did not, in fact have any place else to stay. During our discussion about Reaganville, after park's officials indicated that sleeping would not be permitted, the fact that people had leen sleeping in front of the White House for an extended period of time was also dis- cussed. The officials indicated to us that they would take the occasion - our proposed demonstration - to deal with the protesters in front of the White House. They did. On the morning after we erected our tents in Lafayette Park we were arrested and removed, as were the demonstrators in front of the White House. I affirm under penalty of perjury that this information is, to the best of my recollection, true nnd accurate. signed Mitch Snyder 1345 Euclid Street, NW Washington, DC 30009 0 202/332-4332
