Community for Creative Non-Violence
To whom it may concern:

     In the fall of 19811,I, ACLU attorney Art Spitzer and
other members of CCNV met with lnterior Department officials
to discuss our proposed demonstration in Lafayette Park -
Reaganville. We had intended to erect 10-15 tents for the
purpose of making more concrete and visible the plight of
the homeless. The homeless would sleep in the tents and
by so doing show that they did not, in fact have any place
else to stay.

     During our discussion about Reaganville, after park's
officials indicated that sleeping~ would not be permitted,
the  fact that people had been sleeping in front of the
White House for an extended period of time was also dis-
cussed. The officials indicated to us that they vould take

the occasion - our proposed demonstration - to deal with
the protesters in front of the White House. They did. On
the morining after we erected our tents in Lafayette Park
we were arrested and removed, as were the demonstrators in
front of the White House.
