Dear Mr. Thomas:

Thank you for your letter of June 28 commenting on the preferred alternative for the redesign of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. We appreciate your taking the time to express your views. It is only through this kind of public exchange that we can produce the best results for our country.

The National Park Service was asked to lead the effort to develop a long term design for the closed portion of the avenue and the areas around it. As you know the resulting preferred alternative and the other alternatives considered have been available for public review and comment. Your letter, and accompanying petitions, will be included as part of that review process.

Feelings are strong in all of us for our capital city and for our connection as citizens to the White House. We look forward to your continued active participation in the planning process for Pennsylvania Avenue between 15th and 17th Streets.

Sincerely,
(signed)

James McDaniel Director,
White House Liaison
