White House Prayer
On the mantel of the State Dining Room is written
the White House prayer. It was part of a letter from
John Adams to his wife and reads:
"I pray Heaven
to bestow the best blessings
on this
house and all
that shall hereafter inhabit it.
May none
but
honest and wise men
ever rule under this roof."
