May 1996: Vice President Gore, by Bo, the Peace Dog

Vice President Gore

by Bo, the Peace Dog
May, 1996

"I don't quite remember what day it was on the calendar," Bo reminisced one shady day in May, "but early one morning as I was dozing at my peace signs in Lafayette (Peace) Park...

-- (which, unlike my human partners, I have been allowed to do for many hours since January, 1995) --

some mighty big trucks showed up.

By noon, Ellen and I had been encircled by red velvet ropes,

while tourists squeezed past, one at a time,

and burly police stood careful watch...

while Vice President Al Gore told the press:

'By the end of 1996, we hope to have Internet in every school and public library in the United States.'

As Mr. Gore was descending the stage to go into the Cyber-Ed truck, he looked twice at our new sign. Ellen thinks he was reading 'Stop Selling Weapons and War.' Thomas thinks his eye was caught by the Web address."

"I'm just glad he looked," says Bo.
