NOTICE TO DEMONSTRATORS

Pursuant to the Notice to the Public, signed by the Deputy Associate Regional Director, White House Liaison, various sections of the White House sidewalk and Lafayette Park will remain closed to the public through February 22, 1993. The closures are necessary for the safety of the public until the dismantling of various structural components and cleanup of the public areas are completed. The area and its added structural components were used for the 1993 Presidential Inauguration on January 20, 1993.

Because the activities associated with the closures do not reasonably permit multiple occupancy, pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 7.96(G)(4)(iii)(A)(D), demonstration activities are not permitted on various sections of the White House Sidewalk and Lafayette Park that are closed to the public. And demonstrators should remove themselves and any personal property from the closed sections.

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 7.96(g)(4)(iii)(A), the National Park Service proposes an alternative site for demonstration activity. Specifically, those persons wishing to conduct demonstration activity may do so in the remaining sections of the White House Sidewalk or Lafayette Park, to the extent such sections are not closed, or in the North half of Lafayette Park. The north half of Lafayette Park will remain open throughout the Presidential Inauguration construction period.

For information on other park area closures during the cleanup process, please contact the National Capital Region, Office of Public Affairs at 1100 Ohio Drive S.W., Room 112, telephone: (202) 619 - 7225.
