Temporary Closure of Lafayette Park
Lafayette Park will be closed to the public from 6:00
p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, (if necessary from
6:00 to 10:00 p,m., Wednesday, September 23), for safety
reasons during a brief fireworks display, In addition, Pennsylvania
Avenue, between 15th Street and 17th Street, Madison and Jackson
Places and East Executive Park will be closed.
A fireworks display will occur in this area as part of
an official function on September 22. In case of rain, the event
will take place September 23 during the same time period.

of a test conducted August 4, which determined that a safety zone
is needed for the launch/fallout area. This safety zone also
will require the closure of Pennsylvania Avenue between 15th and
17th Streets, including the sidewalks, Madison and Jackson Places
and East Executive Park.
Persons demonstrating in the park or otherwise using the
park, should remove themselves and any personal property by 6:00
p.m., September 22, (if necessary, by 6:00 p.m., September 23.)
You may, if you wish, leave your demonstration signs during this
brief closure. However, the National Park Service cannot accept
responsibility for your personal property. Those persons wishing
to continue their demonstration activity may do so on the H Street
sidewallc adjacent to the north side of Lafayette Park, or McPherson
Park at 15th Street and Vermont Avenue, N.W., which is only one-block
northwest of Lafayette Park.
The National Park Service appreciates the public's cooperation
in this matter.
