Dear Mr. Thomas:
In our continuing effort to make information available
on the future of the White House and President's Park, we hope
you and your staff can join us during two public forum days focused
on the Draft Comprehensive Design Plan for the White House and
its accompanying Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).
The informal publie forums will be held Wednesday January 27 and
Thursday, January 28 from 9:00 am until 3:00 p.m. at the White
House Visitor Center, 1450 Pennsylvania Avenue South, N.W., Washington,
D.C. Please feel welcome to stop by anytime during those hours.
The public forums are informal open-house events where
National Park Service Staff and members of the planning team will
be available to answer any questions you may have regarding the
proposed plan or the other alternatives considered. An exhibit
on the draft plan will also be available.
If you have not received your copy of the plan summary
or the full 400-page draft plan/DEIS, please contact Ms. Ann Smith,
Assistant Director for Project Development, at (202) 219-1007.
Please remember we must receive your comments on the draft
plan/DEIS by March 11, 1999.
We value our continuing dialogue with you about the White
House and President's Park. We believe that together we can preserve
the historic structures and landscapes located here, provide the
operational services needed for the presidency and improve the
educational experiences for the people.
Sincerely,
(signed James L. McDaniels)
