A resolution expressing the will of the House of Representatives that the president reopen Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House was approved by a House committee yesterday.

House Government Reform Committee Chairman Dan Burton (R-Ind.) said he would push for a full House vote as early as Tuesday.

The street was closed to vehicles in May 1995 as a security precaution.

The bill was sponsored by the panel's District subcommittee chairman, Rep. Constance A. Morella (R-Md.), and members including Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and Reps. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.) and James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.).
