"Camping Near the White House"

A group of Negroes from the Mississippi Delta area tonight pitched tents and camped in Lafayette Square, across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House. A number of the campers stand in the grass between the tents and the tulip beds which ring the Square. The sign on the one tent reads "Houses instead of Tents." The group came to Washington last week seeking aid from the Office of Economic Opportunity to obtain housing. (AP WIREPHOTO)(RW11955hwg) 1966
