Notice from Richard Robbins 10/11/95

United States Department of the Interior

NOTICE

This demands that you bring the signs at your demonstration vigil located in Lafayette Park into conformity with National Park Service regulations. Failure to come into compliance will result in appropriate enforcement action.

Last year, officers of the United States Park Police informed you that the platform attachment to stationary signs as well as the attachment of flags onto stationary signs violated Park Service regulations applicable for Lafayette Park. On January 20, 1995, we also informed you that such signs did not comply with Park Service regulations applicable and the simple steps necessary to come into compliance. A copy of our letter dated January 20, 1995, is attached for your ready reference.

On August 22, 1995, the United States District Court confirmed that such signs violate Park Service regulations in Thomas v. United States, No. 94-2747 (D.D.C.). Nevertheless, more than one month has now elapsed since the Court's decision and you are still not in compliance with these Park Service regulations. Accordingly, this demands that you promptly come into conformity with National Park Service regulations. Failure to come into compliance will result in appropriate enforcement action by the United States Park Police.

Sincerely,
Richard Robbins
Assistant Solicitor
National Capital Parks
