BULLETIN FOR THE ABOLITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Editorial

Dear friends,

What you have in front of you, is the pilot issue of the new Bulletin for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapon": so far, it is intended that this specialist monthly serves internationally as a newsletter for the new Abolition 2000 Network (see extra article in this issue), for other anti-nuclear groupings, as well as for interested media and journalists. BAN!s general conception is to cover

1) ( inter ) national activities and campaigns against nuclear testing and for disarmamental steps and nuclear abolition, as well as related developments (World Court Project);

2) monitoring official negotiations (for example, the CTBT), implementation of agreements (NPT), and related governmental proposals and decisions;

3) non-governmental disarmament proposals (for example, the Nuclear Weapons Convention);

4) documentaries, as well as sources of related material, media sources, addresses, etc.

BAN! would be distributed not only as a printed version but also via electronic mail.

Some ideas for the future are:

to find active people ready to join the Newsletter Working Group of the Abolition 2000 Network so that in future, more Network members would work on producing BAN! and, may be, other publications

to work on establishing a broader network, of (contributing) editors, particularly including specialist journalists from outside

to encourage readers to help improving BAN! by, for example, reporting on their anti-nuclear actions

to encourage affiliates of the "Abolition 2000 Network" and others to report to BAN! on their activities

to make BAN! an information pool of and for the anti-nuclear movement
